During today's Gridiron Glance segment, LibetyFlames.com takes a look at Tim Torrence and Brent Vinson, two players who are on opposite ends of their playing careers at Liberty.

The pair of defensive backs has become a vital part of one of Liberty's most well-rounded units on the field in 2009. Liberty has picked off a pass in six-straight games and currently ranks No. 9 nationally in total interceptions (12). On the flipside, the Flames have allowed only five passing touchdowns through the first seven games of the year, which has Liberty ranked No. 12 nationally in fewest passing touchdowns allowed among all FCS programs.

Torrence, along with four other Flames, was named to the Big South preseason all-conference team, which was recognition of the senior's stellar play since he set foot on Liberty Mountain and played in 11 games as a true freshman in 2006.

The Miramar, Fla., native is once again among the team's leading tacklers this campaign, as the senior is currently in seventh place on the squad with 26 stops. Over his four-year career, "Torpedo Tim" (as he is known around the program) has "sunk" 133 ball carries, which ranks second among active tacklers. He also ranks second with eight career pass breakups and is tied for the team's active lead with three forced fumbles.

Vinson is one of several fresh faces on Liberty's roster, who are quickly making their mark on the program. The rookie, who joined the roster last spring after finishing up at Fork Union Military Academy, had a breakout game, last weekend, helping the Flames to a 20-13 victory over Charleston Southern.

The freshman finished third on the team with eight tackles, which was more than his combined season tackle total coming into the game. He also added his first career tackle for a loss and pass breakup, which saved a potential game-tying touchdown pass on the fourth-to-last play of the game. For his efforts, Vinson was named the Big South Freshman of the Week.
