LaKendra Washington and the Lady Flames are three weeks away from their 2009-10 season opener, slated for Nov. 13 versus Winston-Salem State.

Seven seniors graduated from the 2008-09 Liberty women's basketball team, which went 24-9 and captured the program's 12th Big South title in 13 seasons. As a result, Lady Flame fans will see a lot of new faces on the court this year, including freshman guard LaKendra Washington.

LibertyFlames.com will provide a brief introduction of the Lady Flames' newcomers, leading up to the season opener versus Winston-Salem State on Nov. 13.

LaKendra Washington, a 5-8 combo guard, comes to Liberty from The Hope School in Milwaukee, Wis., where she was a two-time first-team all-state honoree. She is the first player from her high school team ever to earn a NCAA Division I athletic scholarship.

Washington, who scored over 1,000 points during her high school career, averaged 20.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 4.0 apg and 4.0 spg as a senior. She was a McDonald's All-America nominee.

2009-10 Outlook: Two of Liberty's most experienced players—senior Amber Mays and junior Rachel McLeod—are guards, so Washington will not be pressed into action immediately as a freshman. However, she will help provide depth at both the point guard and shooting guard positions, with her ball-handling and scoring ability.

From the Head Coach: "LaKendra is a very talented, quick, well-conditioned combo guard. She will add speed and scoring punch to our team."
