The Lady Flames kicked off a successful fall campaign, picking up two wins during Sunday's Liberty Fall Softball Classic, at Liberty Softball Field. The round-robin tournament included James Madison and Lynchburg College, and Liberty was the only undefeated team of the day.

Game 1
Liberty 1, Lynchburg College 0

Tiffani Smith struck out nine of the first 11 batters she faced, as the Lady Flames defeated the Hornets, 1-0. The game remained scoreless through six complete innings, despite the Lady Flames outhitting Lynchburg, 7-2. Liberty was able to pick up the win with a walk-off single by Amber DePasquale in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring Jenna Eatmon from third.

Jenny Law led the Lady Flames, batting 3-for-3. J'nae Jefferson was 2-for-3, while DePasquale recorded the lone RBI.
In the circle, Smith struck out 13 batters and gave up two hits in the complete-game shutout.

Lynchburg College was led by Audra Della Rosa, who went 1-for-3. Pitcher Katie Bruce gave up seven hits and struck out two batters in five innings of work.

Game 2
Liberty 2, James Madison 1

Kaylee West blasted a solo homer to put the Lady Flames on the board in the bottom of the second inning, and Kelly Strickland drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth to set up the 2-1 victory over James Madison.

The matchup stayed even until West got ahold of one, sending it over the center field fence, nearly clearing the Liberty batting cage.

The Dukes responded in the top of the fourth, when Jasmine Butler scored on a wild pitch by Katie Warrington.

But the Lady Flames regained the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. Law led off with a single up the middle, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lauren Trentham. Law then moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored when Strickland dropped a single over the head of the Dukes' pitcher Cara Stecher.

The Liberty defense held off the Dukes in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a diving catch by left-fielder Meredith Baisden, which allowed the Lady Flames to walk away with the 2-1 win.

Strickland led Liberty, batting 2-for-3 with an RBI, while West was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Warrington threw four complete innings, giving up three hits, while Katrina Johnson picked up the win as she gave up two hits and struck out one batter in three innings of work.

Butler led the Dukes, batting 2-for-3, while Stecher threw six innings, giving up six hits and striking out three.
