The Lady Flames will host the 2009 Fall Classic on Saturday at Liberty Softball Field.

The Liberty softball team will kick off fall competition this weekend, hosting the Liberty 2009 Fall Classic at Liberty Softball Field. The Lady Flames, along with James Madison and Lynchburg College, will compete in a round-robin format beginning at 10 a.m., with the championship game scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Lady Flames are coming off a runner-up finish at the 2009 Big South Championship, upsetting 2008 champion Winthrop en route to the finals, where they fell to regular-season champion Radford.
The matchup with Radford marked Liberty's second-straight and fifth overall appearance in the conference tournament title game.

Lynchburg College won its third straight ODAC Tournament and earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division III Regionals for the second consecutive year, after being ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic region. The Hornets were ranked as high as sixth in the NFCA top-25 poll last season.

James Madison ended the 2009 campaign with a 35-17 record, finishing with the second-most wins in school history. The Dukes claimed the CAA Softball Championship to qualify for the NCAA tournament, where they were eliminated in the Knoxville Regional by Jacksonville State.

In regular season action, Liberty is 4-0 all-time against Lynchburg College, most recently sweeping the Hornets in a doubleheader at home, 8-3 and 9-1, on April 17, 2007. The Lady Flames are 6-7 all-time against James Madison. The two squads last met on April 8 of this year, when the Dukes swept the Lady Flames, 4-1 and 2-1, in Harrisonburg, Va.
