Danielle McNaney, a 2005 Liberty graduate, made her fourth consecutive appearance in the Team USA lineup for the Thorpe Cup, contested Saturday and Sunday in Marburg, Germany. McNaney posted the second-highest score among the USA heptathletes, but Germany was able to retain its team championship for the third straight season.

McNaney has now competed in the Thorpe Cup all four years that the heptathlon has been included in the annual multi-event competition between the USA and Germany. Her two-day score of 5,469 ranked second among the five American competitors and sixth overall. However, the German squad took the team title by an overall score of 17,680 to 16,650, when adding up the top three athletes' point totals.

McNaney's first-day results included a 14.19 clocking in the 100-meter hurdles, a 5-5 high jump, a 37-0.5 shot put and a time of 25.22 in the 200-meter dash. On Sunday, the Kansas native closed out the competition with an 18-11.25 long jump, a 127-2 javelin throw and a 2:17.23 effort in the 800-meter run. McNaney was the first American finisher in the 800 and took second place overall in the final discipline, trailing only Germany's Christine Schulz.

McNaney earned her spot on the Team USA roster by virtue of her stellar performance at the 2009 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She scored a career-high 5,688 points at the meet to take seventh place in the heptathlon, contested June 27-28 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
