Women's 100-meter hurdles semifinal results

Liberty freshman Olivia Charnuski comfortably won her semifinal heat of the women's 100-meter hurdles Friday afternoon, advancing to Saturday's event final at the Canadian Junior Track & Field Championships. The meet, being held at UPEI Canada Games Place in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, is Canada's qualifier for this summer's Pan American Junior Championships in Trinidad & Tobago.

Charnuski (Elmira, Ontario), the Big South's third-place 100-meter hurdler in April, raced to a winning time of 14.41 seconds in the third of four heats. Her effort, which left Charnuski well clear of runner-up Haleigh Lloyd's 15.20 clocking, automatically qualified the Lady Flame for Saturday's final. Charnuski's time, aided by a 1.2 m/s tailwind, was the fifth fastest of the day. Ashlea Maddex posted the afternoon's top qualifying time of 14.03 seconds.

Charnuski, who finished second at this meet in 2008, will compete in the final at 10:25 a.m. Eastern, Saturday morning. The top two finishers will punch their tickets for the Pan American Junior Championships, provided they meet the qualifying standard of 14.10.

One other Liberty freshman, Cody Fridgen (Sarasota, Fla.), will also be in action in Charlottetown on Saturday. He is scheduled to contest the men's pole vault final at 9:30 a.m. Eastern.
