Charnuski 10th in 100 Hurdles Semifinals

Liberty freshman Olivia Charnuski placed 10th in the semifinals of the women's 100-meter hurdles, Friday afternoon at the 2009 Canadian Track & Field Championships. She narrowly missed qualifying for the event final in the national championship meet, being contested at John L. Davenport Track at Varsity Centre in Toronto.

Charnuski (Elmira, Ontario), battling a 2.2 m/s headwind, clocked a 14.67 to finish fifth in her heat and 10th overall out of 20 entrants. Ashlea Maddex, who crossed the line in 14.26 seconds, was the eighth and final time qualifier for Saturday's final.

Canadian record holder and 2007 World Championship silver medalist Perdita Felicien sped to an impressive 12.89 clocking, winning Charnuski's heat and pacing all competitors in the semifinal heats.

Charnuski's season is not yet complete. She will now prepare for the 2009 Canadian Junior Track & Field Championships. The three-day meet is scheduled to begin July 17 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

2008 Liberty graduate Charlene Hibbert will begin her competition at the Canadian Track & Field Championships Sunday at 1 p.m., when she lines up for the women's 200-meter dash semifinals.
