Former Liberty catcher Errol Hollinger signed a free agent contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks today.

Hollinger, a four-year starter for the Flames behind the plate, closed out his Liberty career this past spring, inking his name among the top 10 of many of the program's career lists. He finished atop the Flames' career at bats list with 825, while ranking third on the all-time doubles list with 55 and fifth with 245 career hits.

A fixture behind the plate throughout his career, Hollinger played in 223 games, starting 216 contests. He was named second team All-Big South in both 2009 and 2008. The backstop led the conference in bases runners caught stealing in 2008 and 2007.

In 2009, Hollinger hit .327 with 35 RBIs and 36 runs scored in 54 games. He ranked fourth in the Big South and led the Flames with 19 doubles and tied for the team lead with eight home runs. He earned Big South all-tournament honors by hitting .529 with five doubles and a triple over four games. The two-time team captain and the Flames posted a 33-21 mark, with a 17-9 conference mark this past spring. Liberty's 17 conference victories were the most by a Flames squad since joining the Big South in 1992.

Before the season, Hollinger was named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch list. The award is given by the College Baseball Foundation to the top player in the nation each year. In addition, he was named to the Johnny Bench Watch list. The honor is bestowed upon the nation's top catcher each season.

Hollinger will join the roster of the Advanced-Rookie Missoula Osprey of the Pioneer League. Hollinger and the Osprey open their season on Tuesday in Helena, Mont., for a three-game series against the Helena Brewers.
