Liberty third baseman Tyler Bream has been named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.

Liberty third baseman Tyler Bream has been named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, chosen and announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper this afternoon.

Bream recently finished his first collegiate baseball season ranked third in the Big South Conference with 57 RBIs. In 46 games, the Zelienople, Pa., native hit .337 with 16 doubles and eight home runs. He scored 35 runs for the Flames and was third on the team with 107 total bases.

The third baseman becomes only the third Flame to be selected to the Louisville Slugger team in its 19-year history. First baseman Aaron Grijalva was named to the team in 2005, while outfielder Keith Butler became the first Liberty player to be selected to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team in 2000

Bream opened his first season in a Liberty uniform as the starter at third base and started the first 46 games of the 2009 campaign, until an injury cut short his maiden season of college baseball. He tied the school record with nine RBIs in a game during the Flames' 19-5 victory over High Point, March 22. During a seven game stretch, Bream drove in 23 runs (March 20-29), leading to him being named the Big South Player of the Week for March 30.

The freshman had 16 multiple-hit games, including one four-hit and five three-hit contests. He added 12 multiple-RBI contests, including two with six or more and two four RBI games.

Liberty finished the 2009 season with a 33-21 record, posting the program's fifth consecutive 30 or more win season for the first time in the program's 36-year history. In addition, the team's 17 Big South Conference victories were the most by a Flames team since becoming a member of the league in 1992.
