Liberty senior Matt Parker, one of the Flames' three event winners at last weekend's IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships, has been honored as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Track & Field Co-Athlete of the Week. Parker shares the award with Winthrop hurdler Kandrick Cooper.

Parker (Rome, N.Y.) became Liberty's first-ever IC4A high jump champion, Sunday at Princeton's Jadwin Gymnasium, after making successful first-attempt clearances at each of his first four heights. Parker's winning leap of 7-1 established a new personal best and broke the outdoor school record. It also moved the senior into a tie for 16th place on the NCAA national performance list.

Parker will now prepare to high jump at the NCAA Division I East Regional Championships for the third consecutive season. The two-day meet, which will determine the qualifiers for the 2009 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, will be hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C., May 29-30. Parker, who has posted back-to-back regional top-10 finishes, is slated to compete May 29 at 5 p.m.
