Liberty outfielder Curran Redal was selected Big South first team all-conference.

Liberty outfielder Curran Redal and pitcher Shawn Teufel were named to the Big South all-conference first team, while catcher Errol Hollinger received second-team honors, the league announced this evening. The awards were officially presented before Game 3 of the 2009 Big South Baseball Championship, between the No. 3 seed Liberty Flames and No. 4 seed Radford Highlanders. Hollinger was also selected to the conference's all-academic team.

Redal (Jr., Moses Lake, Wash.) was named to the all-conference first team in his first season in a Flames uniform. The junior outfielder enters tonight's 2009 Big South Championship contest, ranked fifth in the conference with a .391 batting average. He is also tied for fourth in the Big South with 77 hits and tied for third in triples. The junior leads the Flames in multi-hit games with 22. Redal has posted a team-leading .453 on-base percentage and a .584 slugging percentage, while driving in 42 runs and scoring 44 runs. He has 12 doubles and six home runs on the season. Earlier this season, Redal set a new conference record with a 32-game hitting streak.

Teufel (Jr., LHP, Tequesta, Fla.) was voted to the Big South all-conference first team as a starting pitcher. The left-hander enters the week tied for second in the conference in victories with an 8-2 record. The junior is also third in the Big South with 67 strikeouts. In his first season of pitching, Teufel has posted a 4.39 ERA over 65 2/3 innings in 13 appearances, 11 of which were starts. Opponents are hitting .272 against him. The left-hander has a 2.31-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Hollinger (Sr., Upland, Calif.), Teufel's battery mate, received second-team mention for the second consecutive season. The Liberty team captain was listed on the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year and Johnny Bench Catcher of the Year Watch lists this season. Hollinger begins the 2009 Big South Championship with a .309 batting average, 32 RBIs and 31 runs scored. The catcher has 14 doubles and is tied for the Flames' team lead with eight home runs. Defensively, the senior has been outstanding, allowing only seven passed balls this season and throwing out 17 base runners attempting to steal.

No. 3 seed Liberty will meet No. 4 seed Radford this evening in Game 3 of the 2009 Big South Championship at McCormick Field in Asheville, N.C. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
