Liberty has plans to install a new video/scoreboard for the start of the 2009 football season.

Liberty has plans to install a new video/scoreboard for the start of the 2009 football season.

Over the past six months, Liberty Athletics and Daktronics have planned and developed the installation plan for a brand-new video/scoreboard at Williams Stadium, in time for the 2009 season, announced Liberty Athletics Director Jeff Barber.

"First of all, I would like to thank Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. for his continued support of athletics, and specifically the new scoreboard project," said Barber. "In addition, Don Moon and Charles Spence have been a terrific resource for us in our continuing effort to give fans the ultimate Liberty Athletics experience."

The video board section, one of the largest in all of FCS football, will be 20 feet tall and 36 feet wide, and will be equipped with HD 16 mm technology. The dimension of the new board is two-and-a-half times the square footage of the leased video board that has been a staple at Williams Stadium the past two seasons. The new video/scoreboard will be located on top of four Jeffersonian pillars behind the north end zone and just in front of the Williams Football Operations Center.

"This new scoreboard shows the commitment Liberty has for its football program," commented Barber. "We want to be the very best we can be, and having a Daktronics scoreboard of this magnitude will have abundant benefits for our team, recruiting and the overall Flames football gameday experience."

The entire scoreboard will be 24 feet tall with back-lit lettering spelling Liberty University, and 88 feet wide, featuring a traditional scoreboard and tri-vision sponsorship panels, in addition to the video board. The package from Daktronics includes all the software and technology elements required to run a state-of-the-art system, giving fans a paramount Williams Stadium gameday experience.
