In a game that remained neck-and-neck through five innings, the Spartans of UNC Greensboro were able to break away in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs en route to a 3-1 win over Liberty, Wednesday evening, completing a sweep of the non-conference doubleheader.

J'nae Jefferson continued her hitting streak when she ripped a single up the middle in the top of the first, pushing her streak to nine games. But after stealing second, the junior was stranded away from home.

The Spartans jumped ahead early, putting a run on the board in the bottom of the first. With one out, Lyndsey Mouse tripled to right field, and scored on the next play when Jordan Jewett grounded out to shortstop, giving UNC Greensboro a 1-0 advantage.

The offense for both teams remained quiet until the top of the sixth, when Liberty was able to tie it up. With one out, Jefferson reached on a passed ball, and promptly stole second. Then, Kelly Strickland stepped up and drilled a double to right center, driving Jefferson home to tie the game, 1-1.

With one out, Mouse doubled down the left field line, bringing Brittany Ausley home from first for UNC Greensboro to regain a one-run lead. The Spartans extended their lead on the next play, when Jewett singled to second base and Mouse crossed home plate, pushing the score to 3-1.

DePasquale led off Liberty's final chance in the top of the seventh with an infield single, and moved to second when Danielle Howard was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second with no outs. After Jenna Eatmon struck out looking, DePasquale was forced out at third when Meredith Baisden grounded to short on a fielder's choice play. Cassie Hendrix then struck out swinging, securing the 3-1 victory for the homestand Spartans.

Mouse was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Jewett drove in two runs for the Spartans.

The Lady Flames were led by Strickland, who was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Jefferson, who batted 1-for-2 with a run scored.
