Head coach Shane Pinder has now received four commitments from incoming freshmen for his 2009 Liberty volleyball team.

The two-time defending Big South champion Liberty volleyball team has received its fourth commitment for the 2009 season. Loren Thomas, a 6-3 middle blocker from the Orlando area, has signed a national letter of intent for the 2009-10 academic year.

Thomas (Ocoee, Fla.) joins the trio of Hannah Anderson (OH, Rocklin, Calif.), Erica Manor (OH, Bunker Hill, W.Va.) and Kendle Rollins (MB, Lebanon, Ohio), all of whom inked national letters of intent during November.

"Loren will give us great size and athleticism at the net," stated Liberty head coach Shane Pinder. "She is fairly new to the sport, after making a change from basketball just a couple of years ago. We believe she has a tremendous upside."

Thomas was a two-sport standout at The First Academy in Orlando, Fla., helping the Royals claim a trio of state titles. Most recently, Thomas helped The First Academy claim its first-ever Class 2A state volleyball championship, this past fall. She was named the team's most improved player.

Like her older sister Krystal Thomas, who plays basketball at Duke, Thomas excelled on the hardwood. The sister duo teamed up to lead The First Academy to state championships in 2006 and 2007.

Also a standout in the classroom, Thomas maintains a 4.1 grade-point average. She is a member of the National Honor Society.

"We plan to redshirt Loren during her first year, so she can develop in our system," added Pinder. "In the next couple of years, though, I feel Loren will be a big part of us reaching some of our program goals. She is a great fit at Liberty, and we are excited she chose our program."
