Blair Declares Himself Eligible For Upcoming NBA Draft

Liberty University men's basketball player Larry Blair has officially made himself available for the upcoming 2006 National Basketball Association Draft.

On Monday, Blair formally submitted his name to the NBA offices ahead of the April 28th deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft. Blair has selected to not sign with an agent, leaving the door open to return to school for his senior year.

"We felt this was a good opportunity and that I was prepared for it," stated Blair earlier this week in an article featured in the Lynchburg News & Advance. "That's pretty much the goal of the process," continued Blair when asked about the possibility of participating and gaining exposure in the pre draft workout camps. "That's the primary thing I'm trying to gain by doing this."

The three-time Big South all-conference honoree led the Flames in almost every offensive category this year as he averaged 22.6 points per game, while shooting 40.4 percent from the field (234-of-579), 35.6 percent from three-point range (64-of-180) and 79.9 percent from the free throw line (147-of-184).

"Larry's performance and abilities merit consideration by the NBA," stated Liberty head coach Randy Dunton. "Personally, I believe that the experience of competing with that caliber of athlete only provides Larry with greater incite and motivation to reach his goals."

Blair, who currently ranks seventh in scoring in school history with 1,580 career points, will now await the pre-draft camps and the 2006 NBA Draft which will be held at Madison Square.
