J'nae Jefferson pushed her hitting streak to five games by going 1-for-3 against Winthrop on Monday.

After tying a season high with 10 hits during the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, Liberty's bats were held in check on Monday, as Winthrop completed a Big South series sweep with a 5-0 win at Terry Field.

With the three-game series sweep, Winthrop levels its 2009 mark at 14-14 and the Big South's preseason favorite team opens league play at 3-0. With the loss on Monday, Liberty falls to 11-19 overall and begins Big South play at a 0-3 deficit.

In a similar fashion to the opening game of yesterday's doubleheader, Winthrop used the third frame to take the game's first lead, this time jumping out to a 4-0 advantage.

A leadoff single by Tessa Thomas to open the second was the lone hit of the contest until the bottom of the third, when Megan Chapman began a four-run Eagles frame with an infield single just in front of Sarah Ellis in the pitcher's circle.

After moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Pearl Coleshill, Chapman advanced to third as Liberty's right-handed starter uncorked a wild pitch. After Thomas was issued a walk, Kingsmore dropped a single just past the circle, allowing Chapman to cross the plate and break the 0-0 tie.

With runners at first and second, Ashlee Revell clocked her fourth home run of the year and the Eagles' ninth of the three-game series, plating Chapman and Kingsmore with the round tripper to stake Winthrop to a 4-0 lead.

The score remained the same until the fifth inning, when Thomas tagged a two-base hit down the left-field line. After Kingsmore grounded out for the second out of the frame, Revell singled to center field, driving in Thomas for a 5-0 lead and chasing Liberty's Ellis from the contest.

Evans upped her record to 11-6 on the year, after the junior scattered Liberty's pair of hits over seven innings of work, while fanning eight batters during her seventh complete game of the season.

Ellis took the loss for the second-straight game, as the senior surrendered five runs on seven hits, during 4 2/3 innings of work. Tiffani Smith finished off the final 1 1/3 innings of the game, allowing one hit to the five batters she faced.

Revell and Thomas led the eight-hit attack for the Eagles, as Thomas was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Revell was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

Liberty's pair of base hits came from J'nae Jefferson and Amber DePasquale. Jefferson was 1-for-3, extending her hitting streak to five-straight games, while DePasquale was 1-for-2.

The Lady Flames will sandwich a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday in between its Big South series against Winthrop and Charleston Southern.

Liberty will travel up to Charlottesville, Va., to square off against Virginia on Wednesday for a pair of games, before returning home to host Big South leader Charleston Southern for a trio of contests over the weekend. Opening toss from inside the circle against the Cavaliers in two days is set for 5 p.m.
