The skies in Central Virginia were finally clear after days of consecutive inclement weather. However, due to poor field conditions, the Flames were still unable to practice, Sunday afternoon, as the squad was trying to hold its second spring practice session.

Dodging numerous storms, the Flames were able to squeeze in their first practice midday Friday, on their grass practice field, adjacent the Williams Football Operations Center. But that would prove to be the only time the practice whistles would sound on the gridiron over the past few days.

Liberty was scheduled to hold practices Thursday (7 p.m.), Friday (4 p.m.) and Saturday (10:30 a.m.) to open its spring practice season. The Flames tried to take to the field this afternoon, but head coach Danny Rocco found the field too soggy and he did not want to take a chance on damaging the surface, leaving it unusable over the next four weeks.

Good news for the Flames on the day was that the improved weather conditions allowed the installation group time to put the final touches on the new FieldTurf in Williams Stadium. The crew spent most of the day pouring in layer after layer of rubber pellets into the field, nearly bringing to a close the four-week long project.

The project is now slated to be completed in time for the Flames schedule practice on Tuesday evening. Following the weather delays, Liberty's revamped practice schedule is as follows this week:

Monday – 4:15 p.m. (practice field)
Tuesday – 7 p.m. (Williams Stadium)
Thursday – 7 p.m. (Williams Stadium)
Friday – 4 p.m. (Williams Stadium)
Saturday – 10:30 a.m. (Williams Stadium)
