Liberty Lady Flames' Jonita Randolph had a successful start to the 2005 Fall Tournament season by winning the Flight "A" singles competition at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Tennis Invitational this past weekend.

Teammate Dina Senkina (So., Moscow, Russia) who partnered with James Madison's Catherine Phillips, also captured the Flight "C" doubles title.

Randolph (Townsville, S.C.) went 4-0 in sweeping to the Flight "A" singles crown. The junior opened the tournament Friday afternoon by downing Norfolk State's Fiorela Valdivia, 6-3, 6-2. Randolph followed with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Malvina DelLaCanal of James Madison Friday evening.

In the semifinals on Saturday afternoon, Randolph took a straight set 6-3, 6-3 win over Longwood's Elena Triebskorn to move into the final. There, she defeated another Longwood player, Romana Bucur in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, to take the Flight "A" singles championship.

"It is a great start to the fall tournament season for Jonita which we hope sets the standard for her best spring season yet," commented Liberty head coach Larry Hubbard.

Liberty newcomer Senkina opened the season well in her first outing with the Lady Flames. Senkina teamed with Phillips to take the Flight "C" doubles crown. After a first round bye, the pair defeated Hampton's Marian Blancada and Nicole Henderson, 8-3, to move to the finals. In the finals, the two downed the Longwood team of Jessica Farr and Jenny Kile, 8-4, to take the Flight "C" title.

Besides the Lady Flames, eleven other schools competed in the two-day event including Queens (N.Y.), North Carolina A&T, Radford, James Madison, Norfolk State, Howard, Christopher Newport, Washington College, Longwood, American and host Old Dominion.
