The Liberty softball team hosted the second annual Lady Flames Softball Clinic at Liberty Softball Field, last Saturday. This year's camp was headlined by three-time Olympic gold medalist, Leah O'Brien-Amico.

Over the course of the chilly Lynchburg morning, 30 participants, ranging in age from 8-18, received individual skill instruction from O'Brien-Amico, as well as current Liberty coaches and players.

Each camper also had the opportunity to have her swing analyzed by O'Brien-Amico, both in the batting cage and hitting live on the field.

Defensive drills stressed basic fundamentals, such as footwork and correct throwing techniques. Pitchers and catchers also received specific instruction on form and technique.

O'Brien-Amico also shared her life story with the campers, speaking of her playing experience at Arizona, and being a part of three gold-medal winning USA softball teams. She had her gold medals on hand, and allowed each participant the opportunity to wear them.

"Leah did an outstanding job of instructing and encouraging the young players to reach for their dreams," commented Liberty Head Softball Coach Paul Wetmore. "I had many positive comments from players and parents, saying this was the best clinic they have ever attended."

The Lady Flames are back in action Tuesday afternoon, hosting Hampton in a doubleheader, beginning at 2 p.m.
