Liberty fell to St. John's 3-0 (30-20, 30-16, 30-20) in their first match on Saturday at the William and Mary Invitational at William and Mary Hall.

In game one, the Lady Flames got down early as the Red Storm jumped out to a 10-3 advantage. Liberty pulled to within five on an Autum Poorman (Jr., Mingoville, Pa.) kill, but that would be as close as they would get, dropping the first game, 30-20.

St. John's once again got out quickly on Liberty as the Red Storm opened up a 16-2 lead in the second game. The Lady Flames couldn't get their offense going as they dropped game two, 30-16.

In the third game, Mary Alice Pike (So., Durham, N.C.) recorded a kill off of a Lara Bartolomeo (So., Huntington Beach, Calif.) pass to bring Liberty to within two (10-12), but St. John's responded, going on a 12-6 run to take the third game 30-20 and the match, 3-0.

"We came out a little bit flat and St. John's was coming off of a 3-0 loss to William and Mary, so they had a set focus and a fire that we couldn't match," explained head coach Shane Pinder. "We had a good fight and we did some good things, we'll just have to see how it goes tonight."

The Lady Flames were led by Jessica Nelson (So., Tokyo, Japan) as she collected eight kills and eight digs, while Bartolomeo recorded 21 assists.

Liberty will be back in action tonight when they take on The Tribe of William and Mary at 5 p.m. in the Lady Flames' final match of the William and Mary Invitational from William and Mary Hall.
