The Liberty University volleyball team caught Creighton on an on night as the Bluejays hit .495 for the match, handing the Lady Flames a 3-0 loss (30-13, 30-16, 30-20) in their second match of the Aztec Invitational at Peterson Gym. The Bluejays came out sizzling in game one, hitting .613 with 21 kills. Liberty got to within four on a Rachel Denton (Jr., Burnet, Texas) kill, but Creighton responded going on a 14-5 run to pick up the first game victory. Early on in game two, the Lady Flames kept it close, battling to within two, 10-12, before the Bluejays went on an 18-6 run to close out the game and earn the victory. After making some adjustments, Liberty and Creighton went back-and-forth, exchanging points as a kill from Jessica Nelson (So., Tokyo, Japan) brought the Lady Flames to within two at 18-20; however, a Katy Grady kill capped off a 10-2 run by the Bluejays to give Creighton a 3-0 victory. "Creighton was a really physical, fast team who had a great setter," remarked head coach Shane Pinder. "We showed that we were a young team and unlike the first match, we couldn't block." Liberty was led by Kendall Nichols (Fr., Hoover, Ala.) who had nine kills and six digs, while Denton recorded seven kills. Taking over this season for Kristin Colson at the setter position, Lara Bartolomeo (So., Huntington Beach, Calif.) collected 28 assists. The Lady Flames will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on the Salukis of Southern Illinois at 12:30 p.m. (PDT) in the final day of the Aztec Invitational from Peterson Gym.
