Today, LibertyFlames.com continues its weekly volleyball feature, "Side Out with …" Next up is junior middle blocker Chelaine McCarty.

McCarty is in the midst of her best season in a Liberty uniform. She was tabbed the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week on Oct. 13 and leads the Big South in attack percentage (.366). Her consistency has played an important role in the Lady Flames' 17-6 start, as McCarty has hit .300 or higher 18 times this season.

McCarty transferred to Liberty from Auburn prior to the 2007 season and made an immediate impact. She was a second team All-Big South honoree as well as a second team VaSID All-State selection. Her efforts helped the Lady Flames capture their first Big South title since 2001.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
Psalms 46:10, "Be still and know that I am God." I like this verse because, when I get to worrying or fretting about the matters of this world, it reminds me to stop and realize that He is still God and that everything is under His control.

What type of music do you like to listen to?
Country and Contemporary Christian. I also really enjoy oldies like Ella Fitzgerald and Nat King Cole.

What is your favorite play in volleyball?
I really enjoy hitting the slide behind the setter.

What is your favorite sport to play (other than volleyball)?
Basketball.

How did you start playing volleyball?
I was eating in the snack room, which was right next to the gym, and the junior high volleyball coach came over to me and said, "You're tall. Why don't you try out for volleyball?" So, I did.

The actress who would play me in a movie is …
Me.

What is your nickname and how did you pick it up?
In high school, my nickname was Slick. My coach had a hard time remembering how to say my name, so he just called me Slick, because I tripped a lot.

The most famous person I've met is …
Curtis Armstrong, who plays "Booger" in the movie Revenge of the Nerds. Oh yeah! And I've also met Mickey Mouse at Disney World.

My favorite restaurant is …
The Flying Pegasus in Greektown, Mich.

A couple items on my "Bucket List" include …
Seeing the Grand Canyon, scuba diving along the Galapagos Islands and hiking the Appalachian Trail as far as I can go.
