Despite being outshot by Liberty, 15-5, the Florida Southern Moccasins scored two second-half goals to defeat the Lady Flames, 2-1, Friday afternoon at Barnett Field.

In the first meeting between the two squads, Liberty falls to 0-5 on the season, while Florida Southern evens its record at 3-3.

The Lady Flames came close to staking themselves to an early lead during the game's ninth minute. Liberty midfielder Maggie Woody (Jr., Asheville, N.C.) rattled a shot off the crossbar of the goal from the far left wing, on the first attempt by either team in the contest.

After a save by Lady Flame goalkeeper Karen Blocker (Fr., Bowie, Md.) in the 17th minute, Liberty went on the attack, firing seven unanswered shots over the next 18 minutes. Woody began the span with an attempt from the top of the 18-yard box, forcing a save by Mocs goalkeeper Martina Tangen.

Midfielder Amy Oberlin (Sr., Ada, Mich.) completed the flurry of Liberty shots, by cashing in the Lady Flames' seventh shot of the stretch for a 1-0 advantage at the 41:39 mark. Emily House (Sr., MF/D, Lynchburg, Va.) sent a crossing pass from the left corner of the field to Maria Owen (So., F, Mount Jackson, Va.). Owen then dropped a pass into the center of the penalty area for Oberlin, who found the back of the net in scoring her first goal of the year.

Up 1-0 to start the second half, Liberty looked to add to its lead 55 seconds into the period. A header by Oberlin on the right wing from close range went wide to keep the score the same.

Florida Southern knotted the contest on its first shot of the second half. Erin Hopkins found Princess Haley inside the penalty area for her second goal of the season at 51:40 to tie the game at 1-1.

The Lady Flames had a chance to break the deadlock in the 59th minute. After a foul in the penalty area, Liberty received a penalty kick. The shot attempt by Mallory Neff (Sr., MF, Sunbury, Pa.) went wide, keeping the game tied.

Liberty continued to pressure the Mocs' net over the next 20 minutes of play. A high shot by Ashley Braam (Sr., MF., Grand Rapids, Mich.) started a string of four straight Lady Flame shot attempts in the 61st minute. Oberlin fired the next two shots, with the second attempt from within the 18-yard box in the 80th minute, forcing a save by Tangen. A shot wide by Owen in the 81st minute ended the sequence.

Three minutes later, Florida Southern netted the game-winner. Alex Hoover took a crossing pass in the box and found the inside of the far post at 83:59 for her second goal of the season and a 2-1 lead.
In the 88th minute, a shot by Woody off a corner kick was stopped by Tangen to seal the win for the Moccasins.

Besides holding a shot advantage, Liberty also held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks over Florida Southern. Oberlin led all players with five shots, while Woody added four for the Lady Flames. Hoover had three shots to lead the Mocs.

Blocker recorded one save in the contest, while Tangen made three saves.
