Liberty freshman Cory Reed became the second Flames performer to record a top 10 finish at the 2008 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He nabbed a 10th-place finish in the men's 10,000-meter final, late Saturday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

Reed (Eldred, N.Y.) stayed among the top six runners for much of the men's 10,000-meter race, the start of which was delayed more than an hour due to thunderstorms in the Columbus area. The freshman finished up in the 10th position, clocking an official time of 32:21.54.

Daniel Dunbar of Southern Illinois claimed victory with a powerful kick on the 25th and final lap, posting a 30:34.09. Unattached competitor Donald Cabral, who had led the first 24 laps, hung on for second in 30:50.28. The duo will represent the USA at the IAAF World Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Poland this July.

Kolby Shepherd (Fr., Dublin, Ga.) had finished eighth in Friday's men's pole vault final, opening Liberty's participation at the USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Next up for the Liberty track & field team will be the USA Olympic Trials, which will be contested at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., June 27-July 6. Liberty alum Danielle McNaney will compete in the women's heptathlon, beginning on the first day of the Trials.
