Beth Bennett is Liberty's 15th player in program history to be named to the VaSID all-state softball team.

Beth Bennett's career year at Liberty did not go unrecognized, as the junior has been named to the Virginia Sports Information Director's (VaSID) University Division all-state softball team, as announced by the state organization today.

Bennett (Jr., 1B, Powhatan, Va.) led the Lady Flames in six different statistical categories. She finished the year with career-high marks in batting average (.328), hits (60), doubles (10), home runs (7) and slugging percentage (.497).

The junior equaled her home run total from her previous two years at Liberty combined. She started all 61 games for Liberty, running her record to 187-consecutive games started which is every game since she joined the program in 2005.

The first baseman was also honored during the year by the Big South as a member of the all-academic team. Bennett is the 15th player in program history to be named to a VaSID all-state team and the selection runs Liberty's streak to seven-straight years with a representative on the all-state squad.

Following a magical run that led to a Women's College World Series berth, Virginia Tech's Angela Tincher and Head Coach Scot Thomas were named VaSID Pitcher and Coach of the Year, respectively.

George Mason's Ashli Breau was named the state's Player of the Year, while Radford's Shannon Keefe followed her Big South Rookie of the Year honors by drawing the same award from VaSID as the Commonwealth's top newcomer.

All in all, 22 players were named to the first and second team listings, including nine student-athletes who notched a spot on last year's all-state squad. Radford, following a record-setting 46-15 mark, dominated the all-state squad with seven representatives.

Virginia Tech followed with five all-state honorees, while Hampton, Longwood and Norfolk State had multiple all-state sections. George Mason, James Madison and Liberty each had one student-athlete honored by the state organization for her efforts on the softball diamond.
