After repeating as IC4A champion, the Liberty men's track & field team earned a spot in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 25 rankings for the seventh consecutive week. The Flames are listed No. 22 in this week's poll.

The Flames defeated Virginia by seven points this past weekend, to claim their second IC4A outdoor team title in a row and the third in program history. Two Liberty athletes, senior Jon Hart (Wyomissing, Pa.) and junior Daniel Newell (Roanoke, Va.) won individual IC4A titles. Hart nabbed his second straight first-place finish in the hammer, while Newell prevailed in the decathlon.

In the process, Hart broke his own Liberty and Big South record in the hammer, stretching the measuring tape to 222-4. As a result, the reigning Big South Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week moved up to No. 9 on the national performance list.

Liberty now has a quartet of seniors ranked in the top 10 nationally. In addition to Hart, Clendon Henderson (Meadow, Texas) sits No. 3 in the discus, Brandon Hoskins (Garden City, Texas) is No. 4 in the decathlon and Josh McDougal (Jr., Peru, N.Y.) is listed No. 5 in the 5,000-meter run.

SEC teams hold down the top two spots in this week's rankings, as LSU is No. 1, and Florida ranks No. 2. Last week's top-ranked team, Texas A&M, dropped to the No. 3 spot.

The Flames will send nine athletes to Tallahassee, Fla., on May 30-31 for the NCAA Division I East Regional Championship meet. The two-day competition will determine Liberty's qualifiers for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
