Liberty University Head Softball Coach Paul Wetmore has announced the signing of Meredith Baisden to a national letter of intent for the 2008-09 academic year.

"We are pleased to sign this talented young lady," commented Wetmore. "She is a true power hitter and great outfielder. She comes to play hard every day, and we expect her to be an impact player."

Baisden will be coming to Liberty from Cabell Midland High School in Huntington, W.Va., the same program which gave Liberty current Lady Flames infielder J'nae Jefferson and fomer four-year letterwinner Kristi Hanna (1997-2000).

Through 29 games this year, Baisden is batting an impressive .500 (46-for-92), including eight doubles, two triples and 11 home runs. The outfielder leads the Lady Knights with 39 RBIs and a .989 slugging percentage, helping her squad to a 23-6 record and to this week's MSAC Championship title game.

In three previous seasons at Cabell Midland, the team captain has twice been named to the MSAC first-team all-conference roster and the West Virginia honorable-mention all-state squad.

Baisden has also played ASA travel ball for the Diamond Dusters over the past six seasons. Last year, she helped the team to a seventh-place finish at the Dynamite Classic in Columbia, S.C., and a title with an unblemished record at the Carolina Cardinal Classic in Raleigh, N.C. She batted .382 (60-for-157) with 11 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 11 stolen bases during the travel season.

Baisden joins a quartet of players who inked scholarships with Liberty during the fall. She will be added to Liberty's roster along with Danielle Howard (SS/3B), Jenny Law (C/OF), Kelly Strickland (SS) and Kaylee West (1B), who previously signed NLIs.
