The Liberty women's indoor track & field team has received the 2008 Big South Team Sportsmanship Award.

For the second-consecutive season, the Liberty women's indoor track & field team has won the Big South Conference Team Sportsmanship Award, it was announced today.

The Lady Flames, who claimed the runner-up trophy at the 2008 New Balance Big South Indoor Track & Field Championship, become the third Liberty squad to win a Big South Team Sportsmanship Award this season. The volleyball and men's cross country teams were previously recognized.

Liberty has now won 13 Big South Team Sportsmanship Awards, since the awards program was instituted in 2005-06. Nine of the honors have been captured by the school's men's and women's track & field and cross country teams.

The team awards are voted on by Big South student-athletes and are awarded at the end of each competitive season. Teams cannot vote for themselves.

The Liberty women's indoor track & field team was one of four Big South squads honored on Wednesday. Radford took home the sportsmanship awards for men's basketball and men's indoor track & field, while Charleston Southern repeated as the women's basketball award winner.

At the conclusion of the 2007-08 athletic season, the Big South Conference's Institutional Sportsmanship Award will be announced. An institution's sport winners count towards the Institution Sportsmanship Award and the winner is determined on a system recognizing the highest percentage of the maximum possible points each institution is capable of achieving in that year. The institution with the highest percentage will win the award. VMI has won the Big South's Institutional Sportsmanship Award the first two years.
