Ashley Williams has been named this week's Big South Player of the Week.

Ashley Williams helped lead the Lady Flames to 2-1 start in Big South competition this past weekend, and the senior was duly honored by being named the league's Player of the Week, as announced earlier today.

Williams (Sr., DP/C, Lilburn, Ga.) batted .333 on the week (6-for-18), hitting safely in all five games to extend her hitting streak to seven games. Four of the senior's six hits fell for extra bases, including a pair of doubles and home runs.

Williams drove in a run during all five games, finishing the week with six RBIs to help her tie for the team lead on the year with 11 runs driven in. With the RBI total on the week, the designated player/catcher moved into first place on the Lady Flames' all-time career RBI list with 151. She passed Shannon Tanski, who tallied 149 RBI over three years (1997-99).

Williams, Liberty's first weekly conference honoree, helped the Lady Flames to their first winning week of the year. The Lady Flames split a doubleheader with in-state foe James Madison, before taking two out of three from Birmingham-Southern.

On the season, Williams is batting .258 with eight runs scored, four doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI. She ranks second on the team with a .398 slugging percentage.

The senior continues to climb the career ranks, as she ranks third in a trio of categories, including 36 career home runs, 220 hits and 43 doubles. She needs 10 more hits to become the program's all-time leader, as compared to five doubles to lead the category.

Williams and the Lady Flames have a full slate of contests scheduled this week, opening with No. 12 Tennessee tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader in Knoxville, Tenn. Liberty follows with a twinbill against Virginia at home on Wednesday, before returning to the road for a three-game set at Coastal Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.
