Steenson is Liberty's third straight ASUN Defensive Player of the Week honoree.

Liberty women's lacrosse senior Sarah Steenson has been honored as the ASUN Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.

This is the first ASUN weekly honor for Steenson this season and second of her career. The defender was named conference defensive player of the week just under a year ago on March 10, 2019.

Liberty has now featured the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week in three consecutive weeks for the first time in program history. This is only the second time in league history that a team has featured the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week in three or more straight weeks. Detroit Mercy had a stretch of straight defensive player of the week honors in 2013. Lady Flames junior midfielder Mia Toscano received the award last Tuesday, and sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Soriero was recognized two weeks (Feb. 25).

"Sarah has been grinding every day since she has stepped on campus. I'm really excited for her to be recognized for all the hard work she's put in," said Liberty head coach Kelly Nangle.

Steenson tallied a career-best six caused turnovers in Liberty's dramatic 14-13 home win over Robert Morris, last Thursday. Her six caused turnovers are tied for the third most in a game by a Lady Flame in program history. The Haymarket, Va., native also notched her second career five  ground ball game.

Steenson and the Liberty defense recorded 18 caused turnovers in the victory, including 16 in the first half. The senior defender had five of those 16 caused turnovers in the opening 30 minutes. The Lady Flames collected 23 ground balls in the match as well. Steenson also dished out her first career assist versus the Colonials.

Steenson is tied for third on the squad with 11 ground balls this season and tied for fourth with eight caused turnovers. She ranks seventh in program history with 68 career caused turnovers.

Steenson and the Lady Flames (3-3) will return to action on March 21 against former Big South rival High Point (1-4). First draw is slated for noon at the Liberty Lacrosse Field.
