Liberty sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Soriero has been named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office, Tuesday afternoon.
This is the first ASUN weekly honor of Soriero's career and first ASUN honor for the Lady Flames this season. She is the first Liberty player to be honored as ASUN Defensive Player of the Week since Carly White garnered the distinction on April 30, 2019.
"I'm really excited for Jenny! For her to be recognized for her efforts so early in her career is awesome," said Liberty head coach Kelly Nangle. "We have a very well-rounded group this year. Each game is a new opportunity for someone to step up, and each game someone rises to the occasion. I'm excited to keep watching this group grow and get better each game!"
Soriero made 10 saves in the second half Liberty's 16-9 home-opening win over Furman, last Wednesday. The Pompton Plains, N.J., native is the first Lady Flame since Katherine Widrick on March 3, 2018, at Richmond to make 10 stops in a half.
Soriero made saves on all four Paladin free-position shots in the second frame and also collected a ground ball.
Soriero and Liberty (1-2) are back in action tomorrow as they play host to the Winthrop Eagles (0-3). First draw is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Liberty Lacrosse Field.
