Sunday, Feb. 23 - Final Day Amelia - This morning we had our last session before rushing to the airport to catch our long flight back to Lynchburg. This practice was a little different than the others as we were put into different teams and able to compete the entire time. This experience is one I will never forget and is definitely a highlight of my volleyball career.
While I'm sad that it all flew by so fast, I am excited to be back at Liberty and hope I am able to bring what I learned into our gym so our play continues to be elevated as we all work hard and train each day! I'm thankful for another year of playing the sport I love and I know God has big things in store for Liberty Volleyball!
Earlier Posts Friday, Feb. 21 - First Day of Tryouts Amelia - After a long day of travel yesterday, I was very thankful for a slow, restful morning. The mountains here are beautiful but it's been very sunny today. I have two roommates, one from UNLV and the other from Oklahoma. They're both seniors so it's been fun to learn more about their volleyball experiences and what their future plans are. After eating breakfast with Macy and my roommates, Macy and I went to chill and do homework before our first sessions. I was assigned to the first red wave while Macy was in the blue wave later in the evening. I'm wearing a white shirt and my number is 1 for the entire tryout.
I was super nervous before the first session but I've been so grateful to all the people who have been reaching out to wish me good luck and let me know I'm covered in prayer! We began the session with serve and pass before hitting lines and then played a ton of 6 on 6. It was very fast paced and it is definitely high level volleyball with so many great players! The high altitude does a good job of leaving you winded by the end of the session but I'm chugging water and doing my best to recover so I'm ready for another opportunity to play tomorrow morning. I'm so thankful to be here! Saturday, Feb. 22 - High-Level Volleyball and ASUN Connections Macy - Today was the second day of training. I was in the blue wave for the first session that was in the morning and then I was moved to the red wave for the second session that was in the afternoon. It was a quick turn around as I only had less than an hour to eat after my first session, but it was a lot of fun because I got to play with Amelia and some old teammates of mine. My experience so far has been nothing short of awesome. The competition is high level and it makes me want to elevate my play. The rest of the day has been nice since my family came to see me in Colorado, so I have been spending a lot of time with them. Amelia - Today was a full day of volleyball with two sessions in the morning and afternoon. Every practice is structured similarly with serve and pass and then a ton of fast-paced scrimmage. Wow, have I learned a lot! It's been so rewarding to play at such a high level with so many talented players; I can already tell it's really elevated my game.
I've been able to play alongside Karlee, the libero from Kennesaw State quite a bit this weekend. It was fun to be on the same side of the net for once considering we're used to going at each other during conference play. She did me a few favors covering me behind the monstrous block I was up against at times!
Competing in the Olympic Training Center has been such a cool experience and I can't believe we only have one more day left! Thank you to everyone who has been praying for me. In an environment filled with so many coaches evaluating your performance, I've been reminded that I'm still only playing for an audience of one and because of that, God has given me a spirit of joy and peace while being here!
