Flames Post 5th-Place Finish at SunTrust Gator Invitational

No. 29 Liberty saved its best round for Sunday, allowing the Flames to finish in fifth place at the 2020 SunTrust Gator Invitational.

Liberty and No. 31 and tournament host Florida were the only two teams in the 15-team field to find red numbers on Sunday.

With the improved play, the Flames posted a final score of 15-over par 855 (289-287-279) at the Mark Bostick Golf Course (par 70, 6,701 yards), the home course of the Gators.

Field Reflections:
• With the Flames' fifth-place finish, Liberty posted its second-best finish in nine-straight appearances at this event.
• Prior to last year's third-place showing, Liberty's best finish at the Florida tournament was a sixth-place finish in 2012, 2016 and 2018.
• No. 31 Florida walked away with the title, winning by 18 strokes with a victorious score of 12-under par 828 (283-272-273).
• No. 19 Vanderbilt finished as the runner-up with a team score of 6-over par 846 (288-277-281).
• No. 36 South Florida (286-286-280) and Penn State (287-284-281) finished three strokes ahead of the Flames with a 12-over par 852.
• Liberty finished ahead of two other ASUN Conference teams: No. 26 North Florida finished in 10th place with a 26-over par 866 (290-291-285) and Jacksonville finished in 12th place with a 31-over par 871 (295-289-287).
• Florida's Ricky Castillo, the No. 46 ranked golfer in the country, took home medalist honors with a 13-under par 197 (70-63-64), winning by eight strokes.

Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• The Flames ranked third in the 15-man field in both par-4 scoring (4.10 scoring average/+15) and in birdies (37).
• Liberty's Jonathan Yaun was one of eight players in the 84-man field to finish the event with an under-par final score.
• Yaun's 3-under par 67 to close out the event marked the sophomore's sixth sub-70 round of the season.
• Kieran Vincent, who is ranked No. 89 in the country, carded four birdies during his last nine holes to help him finish tied for 10th place with a 1-over par 211 (70-72-69).
• Alexandre Fuchs, who finished tied for 37th place with a 7-over par 217 (76-71-70), led the Flames during the tournament with 11 birdies.
