No. 33 Liberty continued its successful run at its traditional spring season opener, taking third place at the 2020 Sea Best Invitational on Tuesday.

The Flames, who finished the fall season ranked No. 33 in the final Fall Golfstat rankings, carded a 1-over par 841 (283-279-279) at the TPC Sawgrass – Valley Course (par 70, 6,790 yards), the sister course to the famed TPC Sawgrass – Stadium Course.

Liberty edged out No. 13 North Carolina by one stroke, as the Tar Heels finished the Jacksonville-hosted event with a 2-over par 842 (278-282-282).

The Flames were paced by senior Ervin Chang, who finished tied for sixth place with a 3-under par 207 (71-71-65). Chang closed the tournament with a 5-under par 65 on Tuesday, his lowest round of the 2019-20 season.

Field Reflections:
• No. 12 Texas A&M claimed the team title with a winning score of 13-under par 827 (281-272-274).
• The Aggies finished two strokes ahead of No. 37 Florida, who took home runner-up honors with an 11-under par 829 (276-278-275).
• The Flames finished the event head of three other ASUN Conference members: No. 31 North Florida finished in fifth place (7-over par 847), Lipscomb finished in seventh place (15-over par 855) and tournament host Jacksonville finished in 10th place (25-over par 865 (291-289-285).
• Florida's Ricky Castillo, who is ranked No. 99 in the country, closed the event with a 5-under par 65 to take home medalist honors with an overall 8-under par 202 (70-67-65).

Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• Liberty has participated in this event 10 out of the last 11 years, posting nine top-five finishes.
• Chang was on pace to tie a career low round and match the school record 54-hole individual record after posting a birdie on the par-5, No. 16 hole (559 yard) to go to 7-under par for the day.
• However, the senior closed with two bogeys on the last two holes, giving him his 18th career top-10 finish.
• Jonathan Yaun finished tied for 12th place with an even-par 210 (69-71-70), marking his fourth tournament finish at par or better in six events this season.
• Kieran Vincent, who entered the event ranked No. 80 in the country, finished tied for 19th place with 1-over par 211 (71-69-71), giving him his third-straight top-20 finish.
• Connor Polender, who competed in the event as an individual, finished tied for 25th place with a 3-over par 213 (74-67-72), his second top-25 finish of the year.
