No. 33 Liberty Returns to the Course at Sea Best Invitational

Following nearly a three-month layoff, No. 33 Liberty will return to the golf course, kicking off the spring portion of its 2019-20 schedule at the Sea Best Invitational, Monday and Tuesday.

The two-day, 54-hole event is hosted by ASUN Conference member Jacksonville at the TPC Sawgrass – Valley Course (par 70, 6,790 yards) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

Tournament Reflections – Liberty's Previous Showing at the Sea Best Invitational:  
• Liberty has participated in this event nine out of the last 10 years, posting eight top-five finishes.
• Last year, the Flames opened their spring season schedule by finishing with a fourth-place finish at this event, carding an 11-over par 851 (279-289-283).
• Liberty's Kieran Vincent paced the way for the Flames at the event, finishing tied for fourth place with a 2-under par 208 (68-73-67).
• Ervin Chang, who won this event in a playoff in 2018, finished tied for seventh place last year with a 1-under par 209 (67-70-72).
• Chang finished the 54-hole event tied with Lipscomb's Eric Ansett (67-68-69-204) and North Carolina's William Register (65-69-70-204).
• Chang captured medalist honors in a playoff, posting a par on the first playoff, while Ansett and Register both bogeyed the hole.
• During six career rounds at this event, Chang has a 68.8 career stroke average and has posted three sub-70 rounds.

From the 18th Green – Recapping Liberty's Last Time Out
• The Flames finished off their five-tournament fall schedule when they posted a sixth-place finish at the 2019 Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, Nov. 1-3, in Ka'anapali, Hawaii.
• The tournament marked the second time in program history that the Liberty men's golf program has made a trip to Hawaii.
• Liberty carded a 29-under par 823 (272-272-279), setting a new 54-hole team score program record.
• The Flames were paced by Alexandre Fuchs, who finished tied for eighth place with a 10-under par 203 (68-67-68).
• Fuchs' 10-under par 203 was the fifth-best 54-hole individual total in program history.

Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes
• The Flames finished the fall season ranked No. 33 in the final fall Golfstat national rankings.
• As a team, Liberty finished the fall season with a 284.0 stroke average, the second-best fall team stroke average in school history.
• Four out of Liberty's starting five golfers finished the fall season with an individual stroke average below 72.0.
• Liberty enters the spring portion of its 2019-20 schedule looking to make its ninth trip to the NCAA Regionals in the last 10 years.
