Makenzy Mizera was named ASUN Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second time in her career.
Liberty sophomore Makenzy Mizera has been named ASUN Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week, while teammate Abby Pantlitz garnered the ASUN Women's Freshman of the Week honor.
This marks Mizera's second career ASUN Women's Field Athlete of the Week recognition, going along with her honor on May 8, 2019. The Maryville, Mo., native's season opener at the Virginia Tech Invitational was headlined by a school-record 41-3.75 triple jump effort on Friday.
Mizera, who placed second in the triple jump competition, eclipsed the previous Liberty record of 41-0.5 set by Janae Jones at the 2017 Big South Championship. She now owns the Liberty women's indoor long jump (19-1.5) and triple jump program records.
Mizera's 41-3.75 triple jump effort is tied for No. 3 on the ASUN Conference all-time list. It also ranks her No. 28 nationally for the event this season.
On Saturday, Mizera competed in the Virginia Tech Invitational long jump competition, reaching 18-3 for ninth place. Mizera sits fourth on this season's ASUN women's long jump chart.
A sprinter from Navarre, Fla., Pantlitz made an encouraging collegiate debut at the Virginia Tech Invitational. She came in 12th in the women's 200 (25.09) and took 18th in the women's 60 (7.75). Pantlitz currently ranks third in the ASUN in both events this season, including first among freshmen.
Mizera and Pantlitz are both slated to compete on their home track this weekend at the 15th annual Liberty Kickoff. Events will begin Friday at noon and Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
