Osborne Stadium, home of Liberty women's soccer, will welcome nine newcomers next season.
Lang Wedemeyer and Liberty women's soccer announced nine newcomers on National Signing Day, Wednesday.
"This is a very diverse and exciting class of new players that we have committing today," Wedemeyer said. "We have some wonderful soccer players combined with excellent athletes that will bring skill, speed, and competitiveness to our program. And best of all, they all are a great fit for our unique team culture here at Liberty. We expect these players to make immediate impacts on our program, on and off the field."
Rachel DeRuby | Midfielder | Oneida, N.Y.
DeRuby was a four-year starter and two-year captain at Oneida high school where she tallied 105 total points with 59 goals and 46 assists. During her 2019 season, DeRuby set a school record for most goals and assists in a single season. One of the best players in her conference, DeRuby was a four-time Tri-Valley League All-Star Team selection. In 2017 DeRuby was named the 2017 NYS Section III Tri-Valley League Player of the Year. DeRuby also played for the ECNL soccer club, Western New York Flash, where she was a starter for three years.
Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Rachel is very technical and skillful midfielder who is excellent at connecting the back line with the forward line. She very composed on the ball and very quick to break pressure to start the attack. She is another one that just seems to make the right play at the right time."
Lena James | Defender | Brownsburg, In.
James was a three-year starter and captain for Bethesda Christian under head coach Hannah Cartledge. During her time at Bethesda Christian, James tallied 128 points scoring 50 goals to go along with 28 assists. James is a three-time all-conference selection and was selected to the Indiana Elite North vs. South Team.
Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Lena is a no-nonsense defender who is excellent in her positioning, communicates very well, and is a tough tackler. She has excellent spatial awareness and always seems to be in the right spot at the right time. We will look for her to play somewhere across the back line."
Shevaun Judon | Defender/Midfielder | Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
Judon played for NYSC GDA coached by Anthony Ferraro and Carlos Mejia. Judon was also a multi-sport athlete playing basketball at Arlington high school. Judon played for FC Westchester, PDP and the New York Soccer Club throughout her high school career. The native of New York has played in some prominent tournaments that included a Jefferson Cup appearance, the Disney Showcase, the PDP Tournament and the Surf Cup.
Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Shevaun is another tremendous athlete with great skill too. She is comfortable playing most anywhere in the back line or up front. She plays with great confidence and has a wonderful presence on the field."
Meredith King | Forward/Midfielder | Virginia Beach, Va.
Originally from Virginia Beach, Va. King played one year in Bradenton, Fla. for the IMG Academy before returning to Virginia to play at Ocean Lakes high school where she also played for Richmond United in the ECNL U-19 where they were ranked No. 4 regionally. King has played against some elite competition, playing in the 2019 US DA Soccer National Championship. King was named to the 2019 Rush Select First Team U-18 SC del Sol PDT Championship Team.
Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Meredith is a box to box midfielder who possesses the technical abilities to thread passes through opposing defenses and the tenacity to track down runners all over the field. She is a tireless worker that doesn't stop until the job is done."
Chloe Marr | Forward | Durham, N.C.
Marr played at Liberty Christian School where she was an ECNL Mid-Atlantic All-Conference Team in 2018 and 2019. Playing for NCFC ECNL, Marr was a member of the 2017 ODP Region III pool. Marr also played for NC Courage during her senior year.
Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Chloe is a goal scorer! She has a wonderful ability to get herself into the right position at the right time in order to be dangerous around the goal. She is talented enough to play back to pressure and fast enough to run in behind causing headaches for opponents."
Maddy Oliver | Forward | Falls Church, Va.
Oliver attended Trinity School where she played for Will Taylor and was named the Trinity Sports Woman of the Year. Oliver has been the leading goal scorer for the last five years and also played for the Washington Spirit where she competed in the ECNL playoffs.
Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Maddy is a strong and fast forward who is comfortable with pressure on her back and fast enough to make dangerous runs in behind to thwart defenses. We look for her to play somewhere across our front line."
Sophia Palladino | Defender/Midfielder | Forest, Va.
A local product out of Jefferson Forest high school, Palladino played for Matt Newton where she was named the Region Player of the Year during her junior and senior season. A three-year starter at Jefferson Forest, Palladino was named the News & Advance Player of the Year her senior season.
Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Sophia is an incredibly gifted soccer player that embodies exceptional skill on the ball, great vision of the field, and the mindset of a champion. She is versatile enough to play pretty much anywhere on the field. We are excited to have her starting in January and to get a solid spring underneath her before competing in the fall."
Alexis Salazar | Outside Back | Troy, Ohio
Playing at Troy Christian high school, Salazar was a four-year starter and captain for her last season under head coach Brian Peters. Salazar also played for one of the best teams in the state of Ohio, playing for Ohio Elite, recognized as one of the top teams in the ECNL.
Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Lexi is one of the best athletes in this class. She is strong and fast and a great defender who can make dangerous runs out of the back. She goes about her business with quiet determination."
Annie Slovak | Forward | Lancaster, Pa.
Slovak attended Ephrata Senior high school where she was a four-year letterwinner and starter under head coach Wes Deininger. White at Ephrata Senior, Slovak currently has scored 55 career goals to go along with 30 career assists. She has been an All-State selection, an All-League honoree and a Section MVP.
Coach Wedemeyer Quote: "Annie is another versatile player who can be a great ball-winning midfielder or a forward that will hound opponents over and over relentlessly pursuing the ball and then finish her chances. Her grit and tenacity definitely set her apart."
