The Lady Flames tennis team went a perfect 5-0 in doubles bouts on day one of the Cal State Northridge Fall Invitational, Friday at the Matador Tennis Complex.
Liberty also picked up five singles victories on the day to bring its total to 10 victories on Friday.
In the A doubles draw, Liberty's Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre collected their team-best fourth doubles triumph of the fall by defeating UC Santa Barbara's Lise Sentenac and Dominika Paterova 6-4. The Lady Flames' Kalani Soli and Eloise Saraty won 6-2 over Emily Soares and Neli Sunjic of Portland in the C doubles draw.
Grace Hashiguchi and Esther Lovato knocked off UC Riverside's Tia Elpusan and Sara Khattab by a 6-3 score in the D doubles draw, and Liberty juniors Nasha Ghajar and Caisey Lee Emery teamed up to defeat Noa Davico and Amanda Schneider of Cal State LA by a 6-2 score in the E doubles draw. Finally, in the F doubles draw, Alexandra Almborg and Kelly Lewis (Liberty) topped Jensen Barnes and Hannah White 6-1.
Ode Mitre, Lovato, Soli, Emery and Hashiguchi were all victorious in singles. Ode Mitre (D singles) topped Azusa Pacific's Jacqueline Wagner 7-6 (6), 6-1, while Lovato (D singles) defeated Portland's Angela Schuster 6-3, 6-1.
Soli (A singles) won in two sets over Lindsey Gelinas of UC Riverside 6-2, 6-0. Emery (C singles) upended North Texas' Sophia Hummell in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). Hashiguchi (E singles) knocked off Portland's Laura Okazaki 6-3, 6-0. The Lady Flames went 5-4 in singles on day one.
Day two of the tournament will begin at noon on Saturday Eastern with doubles, followed by singles.
