After both squads finished as ASUN Conference runners-up, the Liberty women's (No. 9) and men's cross country teams (No. 12) were represented in the season's final Southeast Region rankings, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday.
The Lady Flames are ranked No. 9 regionally for the fourth consecutive poll, matching the team's best-ever showing in these rankings. On Saturday, Liberty finished a close second to Lipscomb (No. 10 in the South Region) for the second consecutive year.
Adelyn Ackley clocked a 5K program-record time of 17:08.65 to become the Lady Flames' first freshman ever to win an individual conference title in cross country. Sophomore Calli Parlier finished closely behind in 17:10.72, completing Liberty's first-ever 1-2 finish in an NCAA Division I women's cross country conference championship.
All of the Lady Flames' five scorers earned all-conference honors on Saturday, as Emma Bower (10th place), Priscillah Kiplagat (12th place) and Brittany Carnathan (14th place) were each second team All-ASUN honorees.
On the men's side, Liberty finished a single point (39-40) behind Lipscomb (No. 7 in the South Region) to record its 17th consecutive top-two finish at a conference cross country championship.
A trio of Flames made the first team all-conference squad, including redshirt sophomore Felix Kandie (second place), redshirt junior Ryan Drew (fourth place) and freshman Caleb Olson (seventh place). Sophomore Andrew Stanley came in 11th to garner second team all-conference recognition.
Liberty's top seven men's and women's runners are now preparing for the NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships. The meet, which will determine the qualifiers for the 2019 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, is slated for Nov. 15 at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va.
Meanwhile, a group of Lady Flames will close out their 2019 cross country season on Friday at the Hokie Open. The women's 4K is slated to begin at 5:10 p.m. in Blacksburg, Va.
