Jayroe Named ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year; Four Flames Earn All-Conference

2019 ASUN All-Conference List

Liberty is well represented on the 2019 ASUN Women's Soccer All-Conference honors as Melody Jayroe was named the ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year while also being named First Team All-Conference. Joining Jayroe on the ASUN's First Team are defender Cora Duininck and forward Gabrielle Farrell while Grace Spade was named to the ASUN All-Freshman Team.

Jayroe has been exceptional all season including an impressive ASUN campaign allowing just two goals in eight games. Jayroe and the backline played its best soccer during conference play as they did not allow an ASUN team to score a goal during regulation. Jayroe ranks second in school history with 20 career shutouts, tied with Karen Blocker (2008-12), as the junior posted eight shutouts this season. The last goal Liberty has allowed during regulation was in the 43rd minute of the first half against James Madison on Sept. 19. This is the second postseason honor for Jayroe in her career as she was named to the 2017 Big South All-Freshman Team.

Farrell was a dominant force on offense scoring 10 goals this season, which is tied for the fifth most in a single season in school history. Of the 10 goals Farrell scored this season, seven were game-winning goals, which puts her career total at 18 game-winning goals. Farrell earned all-conference honors in all four seasons at Liberty as she currently ranks second in school history in career goals (24), third in career points (62) and fifth in career assists (14).

A staple in the backline, Duininck has been exceptional playing as both a center-back and also an outside-back at times. Duininck started in all 17 games the junior played in this season as she helped Liberty post a league-best 0.25 goals against average during conference play. As a center-back, Duininck recorded five points this season with two goals and an assist. Duininck has now earned all-conference in all three seasons with the Lady Flames.

Spade was a key member of Liberty's squad this season playing in all 18 games, including starting in 12 games. The freshman scored the game-winning goal against James Madison in overtime for her first collegiate goal. Spade attempted nine shots this season as a midfielder including seven on goal.
