Saturday's Top Storylines
1. Liberty (4-2) brings a four-game winning streak into its 46th annual Homecoming game and the 500th contest in program history, Saturday versus Maine (2-4, 0-3 CAA). The Flames and Black Bears have only met once previously. Maine posted a 42-20 home victory on Oct. 10, 1992. 2. Liberty is seeking its first five-game winning streak since the 2016 season and its first 5-2 start to a season since the 2010 Flames began the year at 7-2. 3. The Flames have won three straight home games and are 8-2 at Williams Stadium since joining the FBS ranks in 2018. Liberty is 31-14 all-time on Homecoming, including 9-3 over the last 12 seasons (during which time the Flames are posting 46.8 ppg.) 4. Liberty redshirt junior RB Joshua Mack will be facing 32 former teammates on Saturday. He rushed for 2,047 yards and 15 TDs while playing for Maine in 2016 and 2017. Mack is coming off his best game as a Flame, tallying 177 total yards and the game-winning fourth quarter TD at New Mexico State. 5. Liberty senior QB Stephen Calvert needs 69 passing yards to reach the 10,000-yard milestone for his career and 336 yards to break the Liberty career passing record. 6. Senior WR Antonio Gandy-Golden ranks No. 2 in the nation with 728 receiving yards this season and is No. 2 among active FBS receivers with 3,146 career receiving yards. He is 25 yards away from eclipsing the Liberty career receiving record.
A Liberty Win Would ... • Extend the Flames' winning streak to five games, their longest as an FBS member and their longest overall since a five-game streak spanning Oct. 1-Nov. 5, 2016. • Mark the Flames' fourth straight win at Williams Stadium, boosting their home record as an FBS member to 9-2. • Give the Flames their first 5-2 start to a season since the 2010 squad opened the year at 7-2. Hugh Freeze was also 5-2 through his first seven games at both Lambuth (2008) and Arkansas State (2011). • Even the Flames' all-time record against Maine at 1-1. • Improve the Flames' all-time record versus CAA opponents to 4-24, marking their first victory over a conference foe since a 26-21 triumph at James Madison in the FCS Playoffs on Nov. 29, 2014. • Give the Flames an all-time mark of 32-14 on Homecoming weekend.
