Nguyen and Ode Mitre won twice in doubles, Saturday at the Liberty Invite
The Lady Flames tennis team collected five singles and four doubles victories on the first day of the Liberty Invite, Saturday at the Cook Tennis Center.
Liberty's doubles pairing of freshmen Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre won both of their doubles matches. The duo topped Navy's Kaylah Hodge and Amanda Cyr 9-7 in the morning doubles session, followed by a dominant 8-1 triumph over Campbell's Lea Cutura and Lou Regen later in the day.
Nguyen and Ode Mitre were both victorious in morning singles competition, as well. Nguyen bested Navy's Kacey Moore in straight sets (6-2, 6-3), while Ode Mitre also won in two sets (6-0, 6-2) versus Navy's Aimee Dervishian. The Lady Flames' other singles triumph in the morning came from freshman Esther Lovato, a 7-6 (4), 6-4 winner over Navy's Annalise Klopfer.
Liberty posted a perfect 3-0 mark in morning doubles matches, with the other two wins coming from Caisey Lee Emery and Grace Hashiguchi (9-7 win over Navy's Dervishian and Klopfer) and Alexandra Almborg and Nasha Ghajar (8-5 victory over Navy's Irene Norman and Katreina Corpuz).
The Lady Flames' Alexandra Almborg defeated Klopfer (Navy) in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) in the afternoon for her second singles victory of the fall. After not playing during the morning singles session, Hashiguchi of Liberty defeated Corpuz (Navy) in three sets (7-6 (2), 0-6, 1-0 (10-6)).
The second and final day of the Liberty Invite will begin Sunday morning at 9 a.m. The four teams at the tournament (Liberty, Navy, Campbell and Delaware) will play doubles contests at 9 a.m., followed by a singles session at 10 a.m. to conclude the weekend.
