No. 15 Lady Flames Set for Pair of Games Against In-State Foes Over Weekend

No. 15 Liberty will host No. 22 Old Dominion on Friday prior to playing another in-state counterpart, Longwood, on the road, Sunday.

 The Lady Flames (7-2, 3-0 BIG EAST), who share first place in the BIG EAST with No. 3 UConn, will welcome the ODU Monarchs (6-4, 2-1 BIG EAST) to town for a 3 p.m. showdown on Friday at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.

 Following Friday's match, Liberty will travel to Farmville, Va., to take on the Longwood Lancers (5-5, 1-1 MAC). Game time is pegged for noon at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.

The Lady Flames split a pair of road games last weekend in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Liberty topped Quinnipiac 5-1 last Friday, followed by a 2-1 overtime setback at No. 19 Harvard on Sunday.

Old Dominion also won one of two games last weekend. The Monarch topped Georgetown 3-0 at home (Friday) before losing 3-2 in overtime at No. 8 Virginia to close out the weekend on Sunday.

Longwood played two games last week as well. The Lancers topped William & Mary 1-0 on the road, last Tuesday, followed by a 2-1 loss at Ohio on Saturday.

Lady Flames News and Notes

  • The Lady Flames are 4-2 all-time against Old Dominion. Liberty has won the last three meetings against the Monarchs dating back to the 2017 season. Last year, the Lady Flames topped ODU 2-0 on the road.
  • Liberty is 5-4 all-time against Longwood. Each of the last three meetings have been decided by one goal. The Lancers defeated the Lady Flames 2-1 last season in Lynchburg.
  • Liberty was picked to finish second in the BIG EAST, while Old Dominion was slotted to finish fourth. Longwood was selected to finish third in the MAC preseason coaches' poll.  
  • Liberty is No. 22 in the NCAA Field Hockey RPI listing. Old Dominion is No. 20, and Longwood is No. 55. 
  • Liberty junior Jill Bolton earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week recognition on Monday for the first time in her career. The forward had two goals, two assists and six points in two games, last week.
  • The Lady Flames lead the nation in goals-against-average (0.77) and rank third in points per game (10.00) and scoring margin (2.75), fifth in goals per game (3.56) and scoring average (3.52) and sixth in assists per game (2.89).
  • Goalkeeper Allison Schaefer is first in the country in goals-against-average (0.77). Forward Daniella Rhodes ranks eighth in the nation in points per game (2.33) 15th in goals per game (0.89) and 25th in assists per game (0.56).
  • In Liberty's seven wins, the Lady Flames have outscored their opponents 31-4. Liberty is 0-2 against ranked teams in 2019, losing both games by one goal.
  • Liberty has outscored its opponents 32-7 this year and has significant advantages in shots on goals (99-25), shots-on-goals percentage (.639-.481), shots per game (17.2-5.8), penalty corners (56-35) and penalty corner goals (10-4).
