The Liberty Lady Flames field hockey team will head to the Northeast for two matches, this weekend.

No. 13 Liberty, off to its best start in program history at 6-1, will look to stay unbeaten in BIG EAST play when it plays at Quinnipiac (3-6, 1-1 BIG EAST). The Lady Flames are currently 2-0 in the BIG EAST, along with No. 3 UConn (9-1, 2-0 BIG EAST). Game time between the Lady Flames and Bobcats is slated for 2 p.m. at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium in Hamden, Conn., site of the 2019 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship (Nov. 8-10).

Liberty will then head to the Boston area for a showdown against the No. 19 Harvard Crimson (5-2, 1-0 Ivy League) at 1 p.m. at Berylson Field in Cambridge, Mass. The Lady Flames and Crimson will be meeting on the pitch for the first time. Harvard reached the quarterfinals of the 2018 Division I Field Hockey Championship.

Liberty's most recent game was a 5-0 victory over Villanova, last Friday at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. The triumph was the 100th in Liberty field hockey program history. The Lady Flames were picked to finish second in the conference.

Quinnipiac split a pair of contests last weekend. The Bobcats topped Georgetown 2-1 in a shootout last Friday before falling to Columbia 2-1 at home on Sunday. Quinnipiac was selected to finish seventh in the BIG EAST.

The Crimson, who will face Penn on Saturday prior to hosting Liberty on Sunday, enter the weekend on a four-game winning streak. Harvard has outscored its opponents 14-4 during that stretch.

Lady Flames News and Notes

  • While Liberty and Harvard will be squaring off for the first time, the Lady Flames and Quinnipiac Bobcats will be meeting for the fourth time. Liberty is 2-1 in those games. Last season, five Lady Flames scored goals on the way to an 8-2 home victory.
  • Liberty ranks 16th in the NCAA Field Hockey RPI. Harvard is 25th in the RPI listing, while Quinnipiac is 53rd.
  • Liberty freshman Daniella Rhodes garnered recognition on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. Already a two-time freshman of the week and a conference offensive player of the week, Rhodes scored two goals in last week's win over Villanova and paces the team in goals (7), assists (5) and points (19).
  • Liberty is the national leader in goals-against-average (0.57) and also ranks second in scoring margin (3.14) and shutouts per game (0.57), fourth in assists per game (3.00) and points per game (10.43) and fifth in scoring average (3.71).
  • The Lady Flames' current 0.57 goals-against-average has them on pace to set a new program record for goals-against-average in a season. The 2013 Liberty team holds the current record with a 0.95 goals-against-average.
  • Rhodes ranks in the top 15 nationally in points per game (No. 6, 2.71), goals per game (No. 8, 1.00) and assists per game (No. 15, 0.71).
