Three Lady Flames tennis freshmen won their respective singles matches on day two of the William & Mary ITA Hall of Fame Classic, Saturday.
The three-day event is being contested at the Millie West Tennis Facility and McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
Liberty freshmen Esther Lovato and Tiffany Nguyen both emerged victorious in singles for a second straight day. Lovato topped West Virginia's Nicole Roc 6-0, 6-2 on Saturday. The Austin, Texas, native, has dominated her counterparts over the past two days, winning a combined 24 games while only surrendering two games.
Nguyen pulled out a three-set victory for the second time this weekend when she defeated Maryland's Amber Policare 6-7 (5), 7-5, 1-0 (10-5).
Lady Flames newcomer Micaela Ode Mitre won her first career collegiate singles matches on Saturday afternoon. The native of Lima, Peru bested Chloe Hamlin of Maryland in comeback fashion, 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (11-9).
The third and final day of the event will commence at 9 a.m. on Sunday with doubles. Singles sessions will begin at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Liberty will take on doubles teams from Penn State and West Virginia. In singles, the Lady Flames will face opponents from Old Dominion and host William & Mary.
