Liberty Swimming & Diving Announces 2019-20 Captains

Liberty swimming & diving seniors Hannah Baker, Colleen Donlin and Kendal Irwin have been named the team's captains, as announced by 10th-year Head Coach Jake Shellenberger. Additionally, Liberty will start the season this Saturday at 9 a.m. with its 10th annual Blue-Red Intrasquad Meet.

Baker, Donlin and Irwin played a key role in last year's success, as the Lady Flames won their second CCSA title. Liberty had its first unbeaten regular season in program history, going 15-0 in dual meets. The Lady Flames are currently riding a 23-meet winning streak, the second-longest active dual meet winning streak in NCAA Division I women's swimming & diving.

A native of Fairfax, Va., Baker enters her senior season as Liberty's program record holder in the 200 free (1:46.55), while also ranking fourth in the 100 free (49.99) and fifth in the 50 free (22.77). A three-time CCSA podium finisher, she took second in the 50 free as a sophomore. Baker swam on three program-record-setting relays during 2018.

Hailing from Plymouth, Minn., Donlin has earned top-three placings in the 50 free at each of the last two CCSA Championship meets, including a tie for second as a junior. She is currently ranked sixth in program history in the 100 free (50.02) and seventh in the 50 free (22.86). Donlin anchored Liberty's program-record 200 free relay and 400 free relay as a sophomore.

Irwin joined the Lady Flames last year and made an immediate impact on the diving program. She placed 18th in both one-meter and three-meter diving at the 2019 CCSA Championships. Irwin enters the season ranked in the top 10 in program history in all three diving events.

For Saturday's meet, the squad will be split into Red and Blue teams, with dual-meet scoring. Fans unable to attend can follow live results both online and through MeetMobile.

The Lady Flames will continue their preseason schedule next Saturday, hosting the University of Lynchburg for an exhibition meet.

Liberty opens the regular season with a tri-meet hosted by Penn State on Oct. 4, where they will take on the Big Ten's Nittany Lions along with St. Bonaventure.
