Liberty in 4th Place After Day 1 of Rod Myers Invitational

The Flames recorded a 13-shot improvement during their second round on Saturday, allowing Liberty to climb into fourth place following 36 holes of play at the 2019 Rod Myers Invitational.

After carding a 5-over par 293 during the morning flight, the Flames rebounded with an 8-under par 280 during their second time around the Duke University Golf Club (par 72, 7,154 yards).

Following the first day of action, Liberty finds itself in fourth place in the 13-team field with an overall 3-under par 573 (293-280).

Round Recap – Liberty's Starting Five:
• Ervin Chang: T6 5-under par 139 (70-69)
• Kieran Vincent: T11 3-under par 141 (73-68)
• Jonathan Yaun: T22 E par 144 (73-71)
• Zach Barbin: T39 5-over par 149 (77-72)
• Alexandre Fuchs: T51 7-over par 151 (78-73)
Individuals:
• Isaac Simmons: T30 3-over par 147 (75-72)

Field Reflections:
• The Duke University Golf Club played more than two strokes easier during the afternoon flight (73.01 stroke average), as compared to the morning round (75.20 stroke average).
• All but four teams during the afternoon flight posted under-par team scores and all 13 teams had improved scores during the second round.
• Tournament host Duke had the most improved second round, carding a 14-under par 274 to give the Blue Devils the clubhouse lead with a 21-under par 555 (281-274).
• Wake Forest is currently in second place with a 15-under par 561 (283-278), while Louisville rounds out the teams ahead of the Flames with a 10-under par 566 (288-278).
• A total of 21 players are currently under par, led by North Carolina's Ryan Burnett, who holds the individual lead with a 9-under par 135 (69-66).

Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes:
• Ervin Chang paced Liberty during the first day of the tournament, as the senior is tied for sixth place with a 5-under par 139 (70-69).
• Chang finished the first 36 holes of play at the event with seven birdies and he posted one of seven eagles during play on Saturday.
• Kieran Vincent led the 75-man field with 11 birdies during the opening two rounds and is tied for 11th place with a 3-under par 141 (73-68).
• Jonathan Yaun is tied for 22nd place following an even par 144 (73-71) thanks to seven birdies on the day.
