After opening the 2019-20 season with a victory, the Flames continue their five-tournament fall schedule this weekend at the 2019 Rod Myers Invitational.
Liberty, who finished last season ranked No. 22 in the final Golfstat national poll, claimed a one-stroke victory to open the season at the Island Resort Intercollegiate, Sept. 1-2, at the Sage Run Golf Course in Harris, Mich.
The Rod Myers Invitational has been the Flames' season-opening event for the last four years. The event will once again be played on the Duke University Golf Club (par 72, 7,154 yards) in Durham, N.C., Saturday and Sunday.

Tournament Reflections – Liberty's Previous Showing at the Rod Myers Invitational
• The Rod Myers Invitational has appeared on the fall portion of Liberty's schedule each of the last six seasons and served as the Flames' season-opener in 2015-18. • The Flames posted a pair of fourth-place finishes in 2012 (301-286-285-872/+8) and 2013 (294-282-293-869/+5) to highlight its showing at this event. • Last year, Liberty opened the season with a sixth-place finish at this event, carding a 7-over par 871 (289-290-292). • The Flames were paced by Ervin Chang, who individually finished tied for 12th place with a 1-under par 215 (68-72-75). • Four out of Liberty's starting five members this weekend participated in the 2018 edition of the Rod Myers Invitational. • As previous mention, Chang finished tied for 12th place, followed by Alexandre Fuchs (T28 4-over par 220/75-73-72), Kieran Vincent (T34 6-over par 222/73-78-71) and Jonathan Yaun (T39 7-over par 221/79-70-74).
From the 18th Green – Recapping Liberty's Last Time Out • The Flames team tournament title at the Island Resort Intercollegiate was the 30th in program history at the NCAA Division I level and the first since winning the Intercollegiate at the Grove title on Oct. 9, 2018. • Liberty led the 10-team field in par-5 scoring (27-under par/4.52 scoring average) and ranked second in total birdies (56). • Kieran Vincent led Liberty's efforts at the season-opening tournament, finishing three shots off the overall lead and in second place with a 6-under par 210 (71-68-71). • The runner-up finish marked the fifth top-five finish of the redshirt junior's career. • Vincent led the field in par-5 scoring (9-under par/4.25 scoring average) and ranked 10th in the field with 12 birdies. • A pair of Flames shared 12th place with Jonathan Yaun (72-74-70) and Alexandre Fuchs (69-74-73) posted an even par 216. • Ervin Chang finished one stroke behind them in 14th place with a 1-over par 217 (73-73-71). Yaun ranked tied for third in the field in par-3 scoring (2-under par/2.83 scoring average), while Chang ranked second in the field with 15 birdies.
Birdies and Bogeys – Liberty Team Notes • The Flames are coming off one of the most historic seasons in program history. • Liberty was consistently ranked inside the Golfstat top 25 national rankings all last season, including a program best No. 18 in March. • Liberty finished the year ranked No. 22 in the final Golfstat national rankings. • The Flames earned the program's eighth NCAA Regional appearance in the last nine years. • Liberty finished in fifth place at the NCAA Athens Regional, pushing the program to the national championship for the second time in school history. • Liberty finish 20th at the 2019 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship, the team's second best finish at the national championship. • Ervin Chang and graduated senior Gabe Lench were named to the PING All-America honorable-mention team, becoming the second and third players in program history to be named an All-American.
