Daniella Rhodes of the Liberty field hockey team claimed BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors from the league office, Monday afternoon.
Rhodes has now taken both freshman of the week honors to start the season and is receiving offensive player of the week recognition for the first time in her young career. She is the first Liberty player to take both honors since Agueda Moroni accomplished the feat on Oct. 31, 2016.
Rhodes led the BIG EAST with five points (2 g, 1 a) last weekend, as the 20th-ranked Lady Flames posted a pair of shutouts against Richmond (Friday) and Lafayette (Sunday) at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
The Durban, South Africa, native notched a pair of goals in Liberty's 5-0 triumph over Lafayette, Sunday. Rhodes scored in the 28th and 33rd minutes to give the Lady Flames a 3-0 edge. On Friday against Richmond, she assisted on Alivia Klopp's goal in the second minute, a goal which proved to be the game winner in Liberty's 3-0 blanking of the Spiders.
Rhodes leads the BIG EAST in points per game (3.00) and ranks tied for fourth nationally in the category. She paces the team with nine points, leads the team in assists (3) and shares the team lead in goals (3).
Rhodes and No. 20 Liberty (3-0) will wrap up a four-game homestand to start the year when they host Yale (1-1), Saturday afternoon. The contest will begin at 1 p.m.
