Women's Tennis Spring Recap/Summer Update With Jeff Maren

LFSN reporter Nick Pierce had the opportunity to catch up with Lady Flames women's tennis head coach Jeff Maren to recap the spring season, discuss the summer months and look ahead to the fall.

Liberty posted a 15-7 overall record and 6-1 in the ASUN in its first year in the conference.

Spring 2019 Highlights
Team

  • The Lady Flames earned a share of the ASUN regular season crown and the No. 1 seed for the ASUN Women's Tennis Championship.
  • Liberty won eight straight matches from March 23-April 13. The streak included a victory at home over four-time defending ASUN champion North Florida on April 6.
  • The Lady Flames were a perfect 6-0 on their home courts at the Cook Tennis Center in 2019.
  • Liberty's challenging non-conference slate featured matches against strong opponents Wake Forest, Arizona, Furman, VCU, Navy, ETSU, James Madison and Florida Atlantic
  • The Lady Flames collected four 7-0 sweeps and a pair of 6-1 victories in the spring.

 

Individual

  • Kalani Soli – ASUN All-Conference first team, VaSID All-State singles first team, ASUN Player of the Week, No. 14-ranked singles player in Atlantic Region at season's end
  • Lara Soares – VaSID All-State singles second team, VaSID All-State doubles second team, nationally ranked (No. 64) in singles on Nov. 14, ASUN All-Academic team, ITA Scholar-Athlete, 10th-ranked doubles unit in Atlantic Region
  • Maria Medina – VaSID All-State doubles second team, 10th-ranked doubles unit in Atlantic Region
  • Ashley Bongart – ASUN All-Academic team, ITA Scholar-Athlete, nationally ranked (No. 107) on Feb. 20, 11th-ranked singles player in Atlantic Region at season's end
  • Anna Dollar – ITA Scholar-Athlete, finished career fourth in program history in both career doubles victories (78) and singles victories (68)
